PROFILE:

I have over 20 years experience in fashion/media and have worked on editorial and commercial projects as an Art Director, Fashion Editor and as a Fashion Director.

I have worked both in a magazine environment and as a freelancer, managing my own time and working to deadlines. I am completely confident briefing photographers and art directing shoots to specific briefs. I am equally happy to be involved in setting up, researching and writing about new trends and fashion news. I have had experience working to tight deadlines and have worked with small and large teams. I am enthusiastic and passionate about all aspects of fashion and design.

EXPERIENCE:

I am currently the  Fashion editor for Harrods Publishing and Creative ( working across the womens and mens shoots both for Harrods editorial and advertising)

Fashion Director, Dennis Publishing  — 1998 – 2004

I held the position of Fashion Director. I was responsible for creating fashion pages for its the flagship menswear bi-annual fashion magazine and Maxim the men’s monthly lifestyle magazine. This involved sourcing clothes and props, setting up shoots – commissioning and liaising/ with photographers agents, photographers, hair and makeup artists. Directing the fashion shoots in the UK and abroad and editing the film to checking page proofs and writing copy.

I was responsible for the department budget, managing a team which included a fashion editor, junior fashion editor and  fashion assistant. I was also responsible for working with the advertising department and attending ad meetings,  ad trips, trade fairs and catwalk shows in the UK and Europe

Fashion Editor Looks Magazine — 1995-1996

I was responsible for the fashion pages with a team of three. This included managing a budget, commissioning photographers, liaising with agents and editing film and copy for the fashion pages.

Worked with the Fashion Editor Deborah Bee as her deputy, calling in and assisting on her shoots and trips and styling my own pages on the monthly magazine

Fashion assistant New woman magazine 1990-1992 – I worked as fashion assistant to Michelle Shashoua ( Deputy Fashion Editor) and Jilly Murphy (Fashion Editor) – calling in, returns, assisting and admin duties.

Starting as a work placement at New Woman I was then offered the job of freelance fashion assistant to Jilly Murphy the Fashion Editor. I worked with Jilly on New Woman, Sunday People  and  advertising shoots, commercials and on editorial for various magazines and clients, sourcing, researching, calling in and returns. arranging deliveries, props,  answering calls and press appointments.

The collective [eye] is a community of artists, photographers and like minded individuals that appreciate a similar aesthetic. Initially a website and  blog, it is a platform where discussion and reviews can take place about photography, fashion, interiors, design, art and architecture. A magazine is in the pipeline…

SKILLS

  • Editorial skills – working on magazines, setting up shoots, art directing shoots, writing copy to deadlines, editing fashion copy, working to a brief, sourcing content, setting up fashion features, editing pages.
  • Styling skills: working on major commercial projects as well as editorial projects. I am able to confidently work on fashion, still life or interior projects working to a clients brief and coming up with original ideas
  • Social media skills – blogs – tumblr, wordpress, blogger , websites, pinterest, twitter etc working as an online stylist
  • PR skills – marketing and promotions both at an editorial level – I attended advertising trips to Europe, working with readers at reader events, and had experience at a junior level of working in PR offices.
  • Research skills – essay research via library or internet; physical research and sourcing – location scouting, props etc
